{"id":19023,"date":"2021-09-03T10:29:01","date_gmt":"2021-09-03T09:29:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/demo.brandingbay.com\/ARL\/?p=19023"},"modified":"2021-09-03T10:29:02","modified_gmt":"2021-09-03T09:29:02","slug":"exploring-our-hidden-history-together","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/demo.brandingbay.com\/ARL\/exploring-our-hidden-history-together\/","title":{"rendered":"Exploring our Hidden History Together"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Once again the Hill of Armagh is ready to participate in the European Heritage Open Days (EHOD) with this year\u2019s theme, \u2018Inclusion \u2013 exploring our hidden history together.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Opening Hours EHOD<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-medium-font-size\">The Library and No 5 will both be open as normal on Friday 10 September and will continue to welcome visitors throughout the day on Saturday 11 September and the afternoon of Sunday 12 September. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">St Patrick\u2019s Church of Ireland Cathedral will be open for EHOD on Friday and Saturday, free of charge. Due to a special service on the Sunday afternoon, EHOD visitors will not be able to visit the Cathedral and will be encouraged to visit No 5 and the Library, while on the Hill. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Activities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Adults are invited to visit the Library and No 5 to view the interiors of these fine Georgian buildings and the displays inside, including the temporary exhibition <em><a href=\"http:\/\/demo.brandingbay.com\/ARL\/exhibition-on-silver-and-gold\/\">If Speaking is Silver, then Listening is Gold<\/a><\/em> on silver and gold in the Library\u2019s Long Room to celebrate its 250th anniversary.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">For older children, there are touch screen quizzes in No 5, and treasure hunts in the Library. For the under fives, toys and books to enjoy, as part of the \u2018Playful Museums\u2019 initiative.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">As both the Library and No 5 are working to become a Dementia Friendly Museum, those living with dementia and their carers will be very welcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Information on all the buildings open for EHOD can be found on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discovernorthernireland.com\/EHOD\">www.discovernorthernireland.com\/EHOD<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Food &amp; Cider Festival<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The Library is also taking part in Armagh\u2019s Food and Cider Festival over the same weekend.\u00a0 Rachel Toner, the Library\u2019s Visitor Engagement Officer, spoke about the exhibition, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p>We are delighted to take part in the Food and Cider Festival this year. This modest exhibition highlights 18th century items which reference apples and cider, from production to consumption. In 1732 Phillip Miller in his book,<em> \u2018<\/em>The Gardner&#8217;s Kalender\u2019<em>,<\/em> gives advice month by month about the best methods of cultivating garden plants, including orchards.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The history of food and drink is an important element of our cultural inheritance.
