This will connect with treasures in what is Northern Ireland\u2019s oldest public library, as well as Irish Language Week (Seachtain na Gaeilge) and International Women\u2019s Day at the start of March. An excellent line-up of speakers has been arranged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" src=\"http:\/\/demo.brandingbay.com\/ARL\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/P1360651-e1613410267996.jpg\" alt=\"Ogam stone in No 5 Vicars' Hill\" class=\"wp-image-16628 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">On Monday 1 March Damian McManus, Professor of Early Irish at Trinity College Dublin, will give a talk on \u2018Ogam: Ireland\u2019s oldest alphabet\u2019. This illustrated talk will touch upon the origin of the Ogam alphabet, its nature, the Ogam inscriptions, their language, distribution, and date. A selection of photographs of Ogam monuments from Ireland and Britain will be shown along with illustrations from medieval Irish manuscripts.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" src=\"http:\/\/demo.brandingbay.com\/ARL\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/P1360664-e1613411204903.jpg\" alt=\"Page from the Library's copy of The Annals of Clonmacnoise shows an extract mentioning St Patrick.\" class=\"wp-image-16629 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Dr Daniel P. McCarthy, Fellow Emeritus, Trinity College Dublin, will speak on the Annals of Clonmacnoise on Tuesday 2 March. Also known as \u2018Mageoghagan\u2019s Book\u2019, these annals are an early 17th-century English translation of a lost Irish chronicle, which covered events in Ireland from pre-history to 1408. The earliest known surviving manuscript copy of the Annals is held in Armagh Robinson Library.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" src=\"http:\/\/demo.brandingbay.com\/ARL\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/P1360673-e1613411547305.jpg\" alt=\"Old Testament tranlated into Irish by William Bedell\" class=\"wp-image-16631 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">On Wednesday 3 March Marc Caball, an Associate Professor in the School of History at University College Dublin, will speak about the roles of Uilliam \u00d3 Domhnaill (William Daniel) and William Bedell in translating the Bible into Irish.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" src=\"http:\/\/demo.brandingbay.com\/ARL\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/P1360669-e1613412297702.jpg\" alt=\"ohn Richardson's Irish Catechism\" class=\"wp-image-16630 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The speaker on Thursday 4 March will be Professor James Kelly, Head of the School of History and Geography at Dublin City University, who will speak on the topic, \u2018Protestants, Print and the Irish Language in the Eighteenth Century\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:18px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"750\" src=\"http:\/\/demo.brandingbay.com\/ARL\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Regina-Ui-Chollatain.jpg\" alt=\"Dr Regina U\u00ed Chollat\u00e1in, UCD School of Irish, Celtic Studies, Irish Folklore and Linguistics, Head of School\" class=\"wp-image-16645 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Finally, on Friday 4 March Professor Regina U\u00ed Chollat\u00e1in, Head of the School of Irish, Celtic Studies and Folklore at University College Dublin, will speak on \u2018Women of the Glens\u2019 \u2013 about a group of women of various creeds and their role in the Irish Revival.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">All talks will begin at 1pm and be delivered on Zoom.
